Doctors and nutrition specialists all agree that adding omega 3 fatty acids to our diet is very beneficial for our overall health. Another thing you should know is that not all fats are bad. These oils are included in the "good fats" category and they are essential for the proper functioning of the human body.
These acids are also called "oils", but you should not mistake them with the bad fats, which can be found in chemically altered foods. More and more emphasis is being made into convincing people of the benefits of changing their diets and including more omega 3 rich aliments. More and more foods which normally do not contain fatty acids are being added them to increase the amount of essential fats we eat (nowadays you can even find yogurt and milk rich in such fats).
These essential fats are also indispensable to our health, but very high concentrations of omega 6 fatty acids, combined to a very low amount of omega 3 oils, can have hazardous effects on our health. Omega 6 oils in excess are responsible for many types of inflammation, tumor growth and thick blood, a major cause for blood clots. Omega 3 fats have the opposite effect, as they fight to lower the blood pressure by thinning the blood and they reduce inflammation.
Studies have concluded that these acids are beneficial in the treatment of diabetes, premature aging and some types of cancers. Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids must be in a proper quantitative balance in our bodies. Otherwise, we are exposed to a series of perils, ranging to the development of some forms of cancers, because healthy cells begin to break down and cancerous tissue begins to grow.
The high incidence of cancers and heart problems can be blamed to the modern man's diet, which contains very large amounts of omega 6 oils, while omitting essential omega 3 fats. Depending on your daily diet, you may suffer from various types of omega 3 and 6 imbalances. If you eat more fish and green leaf vegetables, you receive the correct doses of omega 3, as fish and some vegetables are the richest sources for these essential oils.
If your diet does not contain these foods, you can either choose to add them, or to take supplements to obtain the necessary doses of fatty acids.
