Early in 2010, all eyes were on the beauty and majesty of Vancouver, British Columbia, as the Canadian city hosted the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The world focused on Vancouver as each country's athletes competed for gold. The Olympics may be over, but that doesn't mean the action has died down in the least in Vancouver. In fact, for music fans the spring is the best time to visit British Columbia.
The General Motors Place is familiar to hockey fans, as it is the home of the Vancouver Canucks and it also hosted the ice hockey competition during the Olympics. In addition, the General Motors Place hosts a variety of entertainment events, including top names in the music world. The General Motors Place opened in 1995, and fans have learned to rely on this location for amazing sightlines, state-of-the-art amenities and a star-studded lineup. The 15 million visitors to attend the General Motors Place in the past know that getting General Motors Place event tickets is a good choice. April kicks off in a big way at the General Motors Place when John Mayer comes to play with Spearhead on April 1. Mayer puts on a show that combines the excitement of a large concert with the emotive vulnerability of a top singer/songwriter. The Connecticut native started crafting his brand of jazz-infused guitar compositions in the late 1990s, and by 2001 he released his debut album Room for Squares, which made him a household name with singles like "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and "No Such Thing." He has continued to develop throughout his subsequent releases, and his latest album, 2009's Battle Studies, has earned critical acclaim. Mayer is known for his stage presence, meaning the best way to enjoy his songs is to catch him live.
Also on April 1, the Pacific Coliseum will host a star of its own as Muse comes to stage. Often compared to the highly-respected Radiohead, Muse combines hard rock, prog rock, electronica and many other genres to create their unique sound. The British natives came together as youths and toyed with a number of names before selecting Muse. After a couple of critically-acclaimed EPs in the late 1990s, Muse released their debut album, Showbiz, in 1999. In the decade-plus since then, they have continued to make the British charts and started gaining traction in the U.S. as well. Their latest release is 2009's The Resistance.
The musical energy moves to the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts on April 2 when Owl City takes the stage. The show was originally scheduled for the Vogue Theatre, but the action will be just as exciting at the new location. Owl City is actually the working of one man, Minnesota native Adam Young. He combines electronica and emo-pop and impresses with his catchy melodies. He made a small splash with his 2008 debut, Maybe I'm Dreaming, but it was his 2009 album, Ocean Eyes, that made him a mainstream star through singles like "Fireflies" and "Vanilla Twilight.
