The beauty of the fuel card is that it makes the process of keeping your company vehicles topped up with fuel no matter where in the country you are travelling. There used to be a time when the only way to run your fleet of company vehicles was to hand out petty cash on a weekly basis in order for employees to be able to fill their vehicles up with Petrol or diesel for company business. The disadvantages to this way of working was that the employees always had to ask for a receipt with their fuel, this was then handed to the company accountant who in turn had to keep a careful audit on how much money was spent on fuelling the company vehicles.

This means that if they should inadvertently lose the card then nobody else will be able to use it unless they know the pin number. This can prove very cost efficient for the company involved as they no longer have to sift through lots of fuel receipts and enter them manually onto their accounts system.

The cards are accepted throughout the country at most of the main fuel suppliers, so no matter whether you are driving locally or nationwide you will always be able to fill up with fuel without having to always carry cash on your person. Many companies also offer discounts as incentives for companies to join their fuel card schemes which also means that you could potentially save money over the course of the year on your fuel expenses. This just seems to be a safe and logical way for companies to look after their employees fuelling needs.
