The fleet card industry continues to grow and expand, leaving plenty of choice for business owners and fleet managers when it comes to enrolling on a scheme. More and more businesses are aware of the benefits of more effective, smarter fleet management and more providers are entering the industry, keen to service this demand.

The number of fuel card options now available is huge. Almost to the point where it's a little bewildering. With so many providers and so many different scheme options – fuel only, fuel and maintenance etc. it can hard to know where to start when choosing the right deal for your company and fleet. Need some help and advice? Don't get too caught up in the minutia of the details of each individual scheme and make sure you vet the provider to make sure their business is solid and sound.

Check how long any fuel card provider has been trading and try and get some feedback from their customers. It's best to stick with a stable, tried and tested company, so choose one that has been trading for several years at least and has healthy accounts. The last thing you want is a fly by night operator who will let you down.

Speak to them first and talk through your fleet card requirements. You'll get a better sense of their attitude to and levels of customer service. If you end up on hold or on voice mail time after time, probably best to avoid them and move on to another provider. One who values your business and gives you great advice and call response times. So take your time, weigh up the options and you'll find the right deal for your company.
