The Nets decided the best way to deal with Terrence Williams is to keep him away from the team longer.

The Nets, who play in Philadelphia tonight, had deactivated Williams the past two games for "repeatedly violating team policy." Williams, last year's first-round pick, frequently has been late.
Nets coach Avery Johnson and GM Billy King decided Williams was going to remain inactive. Rather than deal with any distractions, they chose to send down the backup swingman. If Williams shows professionalism and plays well for Springfield he could work his way back into the rotation.
"It's a great opportunity for him to get some minutes and for us to continue to evaluate him," Johnson said Friday. "It's an evaluation. That's what the D-League is about. It's a developmental league."
Johnson stressed this wasn't a disciplinary move. He said "we didn't have the minutes," for Williams, and he needed work. Johnson said he hasn't seen the usual "explosiveness" in Williams since he suffered an abdominal strain in practice 2 1/2 weeks ago. He missed five games because of the injury.
Williams has struggled with his reduced role – he's played 14 minutes over the last nine games — and hasn't helped his standing with the team by repeatedly showing up late for practices, shootarounds and games.

It appeared Williams was going to play Tuesday against Atlanta, but wasn't at Prudential Center at the time he was supposed to be. He called to tell the Nets he was pulled over by the police and they told him to stay home, sources said.
Williams has been fined multiple times for tardiness and was told not to join the team for the previous two games.
