Ahh, to look young and vibrant again. This is what so many people crave once they hit their mid-life. Luckily there are plenty of ways to achieve this state of youth in this day and age. Or at least take a few years off your complexion and body. One of the commonly heard of methods is called chemical peels. This is one way to exfoliate layers of dead skin off your face. The results are supposed to be incredible, but what exactly do you truly know about this cosmetic procedure.

I have heard many things about modern chemical peels. Unfortunately most of them are bad reviews. I did have the pleasure of seeing a woman one day in a local spa, immediately after she received a chemical peel. I was waiting in the lobby area for a massage treatment, and she just strolled out. I knew immediately that she had indulged in a chemical peel treatment. Her bright red complexion clued me in. Plus there was the fact that she stepped up to the counter and the employee asked her about the chemical peel. I recall the employee telling her to avoid sunlight and certain facial cleansing products for a certain number of days. I will admit, just looking at that results of that chemical peel turned me off. That woman looked like she went bobbing for apples in a volcano. OUCH! Anyway, the moral of this story is there are other options available besides chemical peels. To name one of the more popular ones, microderm abrasion. This is also an exfoliating process that removes dead skin with sand particles. A device blows them on small portions of your face at a time. It's sort of like a face scrub, but more effective.

You'll notice that far less dermatologists recommend chemical peels now days. The results are just a bit too extreme and it's hard on the complexion to remove so much at one time; with chemicals on top of that. More and more, spas and dermatology clinics are recommending microderm abrasion as a less irritating alternative. However, your microderm abrasion process might take more than one visit. Some folks go up to six consecutive times, depending on their condition and goals. If you're looking to minimize scaring, the process will take longer and cost more.
