The infamous heroic outlaw of the 13th century robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. This character is still legendary today as the tale of Robin Hood has hit the small screen and big screen many times over the years. The oldest film dating back over 100 years a silent film of 1909 entitled "Robin Hood and His Merry Men". Douglas Fairbanks did another silent movie in 1922. Then again in 1938 the "The Adventures of Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn as Robin and Olivia de Havilland as his Maid Marion made its debut. For many this film is the true classic that all others made since then are measured against.

The comedic version of "Robin Hood Men in Tights" appealed to us as a silly satire and there was a short lived 1991 television series that also gave Robin a sense of humor. Even Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck did a version of famed legend. As a cartoon, a comedy and a drama the hero that lives in Sherwood Forest coming to the aid of the poor people remains a popular theme for blockbuster movies. The newest version follows true to the theme where the rugged Robin challenges King John. With sizeable production costs and taking much longer to complete this will no doubt be another tale of Robin that will endure the test of time.

This tale has been told and retold as a favorite for many because of the history, the drama and the overall concept of the poor and downtrodden being aided by the gestures of a 'good' bandit as he steals from the wealthy noblemen. The character of Robin has transformed in the various roles from a calculated man of trickery, to freedom fighter, to nobleman, and of course the Hollywood favorite as a romantic and a lover who competes for the affection of Maid Marion. If history repeats itself, this will certainly not be the last time we see Robin Hood immortalized on the big screen and the tale coming to life once again.
