It was the first of September, 1939 and this day would mark the formal start of a global conflict that changed the face of history for years to come. World War 2 was considered to be one of the most devastating wars in history. This was a World war that impacted every man, woman and child that lived through this era. Over 100 million military personnel were involved, with families back home impacted and women going into the labor force to keep supplies going to the troops as well as trying keep their families safe and healthy at home.
For those who enjoy history this war that took hold of the lives of the entire world on some level with conflicts, and battles plotted and planned against almost every nation. Franklin Roosevelt was the United States president at the onset of the war. The opposition who carried a belief of supremacy and preached his racist views under his self-appointed role dictator to Germany was the infamous Adolph Hitler. The cry for Global Democracy after World War 1 was pushed aside as Hitler engaged in his heinous crimes against humanity.
While it was a dark period, the surrender of Germany and the impact of Hitler coming to a close marked a time where the world could unite in a victory and celebrate the end of this horrible chapter. For those with fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or anyone who lived through this era the World War II themed chess set can serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made my billions to bring down Hitler's tyranny.
