Trade unions are an organization that is formed and works for the welfare of the worker in that particular organization. The organization is nothing but a group of representatives which represent on behalf of the workers working in a firm. The history of such organization is not new it goes way back to 18th century when the first labor union was formed. The chief activity of the union is to work for the interest of the workers and ensure that they are not deprived from the company in which they are working.
A labor union works according to some terms and some values. First of all it can be formed in a place where around hundreds of labors are working together. Then among the workers they have to choose there leader or a president and some more union members. These members will run the union and will also work as a worker. The union can be dissolved and election occurs over certain interval of time on regular basis.
The principal function of a trade union is to negotiate with the employers to ensure that no injustice is prevailing in the company. A union can negotiate on certain topics such as labor wages, working policies, hiring, firing, and promotion to a labor. But as a labor you have to become a member of the union and have to abide by the norms of the union. If the employers are doing any kind of injustice to any labor then the trade union can opt for strikes and lockouts or any industrial action against the company and their employers.
Labor union can be differentiated into various categories which depend on their spectrum and their magnitude. There are international, national, and local labor unions. A national labor union takes care of their members in times of difficulties such as unemployment, illness, accidents, and also offer professional training in some cases.
