A Haas simulator is a virtual Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine which has the same functionality as the actual Haas CNC machine.
The simulator is designed for CNC training purposes and is well received by many manufacturing industries and technical colleges as the unique CNC training environment for their personnel. But setting up the Offset within the simulator can be either an easy or a difficult task depending on your knowledge. Don't worry, the good news is when you finish reading this entire report, you will be able to correctly set the offset in any Haas CNC simulator as all simulator offset settings.
What are Offsets?
Haas CNC simulator offsets are used to set the location of the part data on an actual block of material. The part data where the physical machining coordinates are measured from.
The simulator offset allows you to temporarily shift the entire datum of the Haas CNC simulator. The Offset play a very important role otherwise the machine will never have the correct cutting starting point. It's always a good practice to configure the offsets for each job before manufacturing any part. The good news is that once you have successfully configured and saved the offset file, you can re-use the same file over and over again provided that the parameters (Cutting tools, material size, the chuck) remain unchanged.
Types of offsets
There are two different types of offsets—the work piece offsets and the tool length offsets. Both are configured at the job setting stage of the process of manufacturing a part on the Haas CNC simulator.
Work piece offsets
Within the Haas CNC simulator control panel, the work piece offset page is accessed by pressing the offset button twice; this will bring up the work piece offset page. Within this page, you can use the up and down arrow buttons to navigate within the page. Be aware that the work piece offset page contains three parameters that need to be set so that the machine datum can be shifted to the part. This allows the machine to easily locate the part on the machine table. These values should only be set in this instance for X and Y. These values determine the position of the workpiece datum. In most cases these are negatives values.
Tool length offsets
As with the work piece offsets, the tool length offset page is accessed by pressing the offset button once. This will bring up the tool length offset page. Here you can use the up and down buttons to navigate through the page. What you're more concerned with in this stage is two geometry columns—the length and the radius. The length column is where you are required to set the value tool length offset. Each tool has its own particular tool length offset value that is only set for that particular tool. The tool length offset is only applied along the movement of the Z-axis.
