South Beach is a section of Miami Beach, Florida that includes the southernmost 23 blocks of an island that divides the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. This area was the first section of Miami Beach to be developed, in 1910, through to the creative efforts of Carl G. Fisher, the Lummus Brothers, John Collins, and others. South Beach has a unique rhythm all its own, playing out against a backdrop of vibrant, creative Art Deco-style hotels, shops and apartment buildings.
The South Beach real estate has steadily become the hottest market in the Miami real estate market. Folks come from all around the world to buy their piece of South Beach real estate, whether it be a condo or home. The attraction of South Beach stems from its colorful and lively ultra hip scene filled with models, singers and movie stars.
The real estate choices in this district range from luxurious, upscale ocean and bayfront high rises, to much smaller and historic art deco buildings in the middle of South Beach. This diversity is what makes buying homes in South Beach very appealing to so many people.
South Beach Has Miami Beach's Highest Property Rates
The South beach district, as of 2005, has had Miami Beach's highest property values. Although it is generally residential, the district is also home to several large scale development projects and large buildings such as Portofino Tower and sister buildings such as ICON, designed by Philippe Starck, the Continuum, and Murano at Portofino.
South Beach condos have seen a massive boom in new construction in the last decade. The area south of Fifth Street, which is also called "So Fi", is home to some of the priciest condos in the world. Currently, Collins Park is considered as the district's most "up and coming" neighborhood, according to the Miami New Times. The newspaper mentions the new Sanctuary Spa Resort, and an updated public library.
At present, many famous celebrities own South Beach homes, since they offer privacy and easy access to the dining and nightlife that has made this area really popular. The South Beach homes of Star Island, Palm Island, Hibiscus Island and Fisher Island offer some of the most breathtaking views for residents.
The Art Deco District
South Beach is famed for its Art Deco style, and it has numerous world-class restaurants, modeling, oceanfront condos, film and recording industries along with an exciting nightlife. Residents of in this area would be proud to be noted as living among one of the nation's largest historic districts that also features first-rate cultural offerings and an international mix of full and part-time residents. In the 1930s, an architectural transformation came to South Beach, conveying Art Deco and other unique forms of architecture to the district.
Till this day, South Beach has the world's widest collection of Streamline Moderne Art Deco architecture. While many of the unique Art Deco buildings, such as the New Yorker Hotel, were torn down to make way for new construction, the area was persevered as a cohesive unit by a group of activists who organized the movement to put South Beach on the National Register of Historic Places.
