Choosing an Outdoor Rug

by linkroll

posted in Home Improvement : Carpets

An outdoor rug is a rug that is commonly used in the outdoors. There are many different kinds of rugs which can be treated as an outdoor rug but let us focus mainly on rugs which are used on the floor with a larger size.

The trend of living with a concession to the outdoors or having access to the outdoor is catching on to many people pretty fast. This has given birth to many country homes or homes close to nature. These homes are usually built with verandahs, lanais and porches which need an outdoor rug. The need for an outdoor rug in most homes is actually more on the decorative aspect of things. Using a rug for the outdoors for functionality has not been lost yet but choosing an outdoor rug can be based mainly on how it looks.

Color And Design

Aesthetics plays a vital role on the choosing of an outdoor rug. Homeowners choose an outdoor rug which can complement the outdoor furniture they have or the dominant décor they have in their outdoor areas. The color and design of the rug can be matched to that of the outdoor area. The idea to coordinate the rug for the outdoors with the area is to make the stay in this area pleasant and not visually jarring. There are many outdoor areas with a Mexican theme which means that the outdoor rug used here is usually one with a pueblo theme. The colors are usually of the deep and rich variety as well as more on the reddish or yellowish hues. A braided rug can coordinate well in this theme.

Most outdoor rugs are not the plush ones since these get dusty or dirty more quickly than the ones with shorter loops or strands. There are individuals who do use the plush long looped rugs for outdoor use and they have to be very particular when cleaning these or keeping them away from exposure to the elements. There are outdoor rugs that are water resistant and do not bleed when exposed to rain and sunlight. These rugs are hardy and sturdy enough to actually withstand constant and direct exposure to harsh weather.

The things that one needs to consider when choosing an outdoor rug is its resilience and its ability to withstand the elements without wearing down too fast and too easily. These are the basic standards with which one can choose rugs to be used for the outdoors.
