Having a pet at home is a really nice thing, but if you are spending much of your time cleaning its poop, then you seriously need to give proper potty training to your pet. Pet potty training is one of the biggest challenges of bringing up your pet. The crux of pet potty training is teaching your pet to relieve themselves at right place and time. Though having a guide, a book or a video at your disposal is really helpful, pet potty training is nothing but repeating commands to your pet. This is one area of pet training wherein you can even use force or punishment or even a pet training collar to teach your pet.
Pet potty training is not a one day affair. It often takes several weeks before your lovely pet is not dirtying your sofa or carpets. It becomes really painful if your pet is not properly potty trained. Do you know that it is comparatively easy to train a grown up pet for potty training than a baby pet? The reason is, grown up pets easily understand your commands. But this is something which is useful only if you buy a grown up pet, otherwise you will have to start potty training your pet right from the moment it is brought into home.
Pet potty training can be started by showing your pet which is the right place for them to answer nature’s call. After your pet has eaten, you need to wait for at least an hour before you take your pet to the place where you want it to relieve itself. It will try to move away from the place, but keep your pet in the same area by force. If it relieves itself in the proper place, reward your pet by giving him his favorite food or by some other means. If it does not happen the way you intended, scold him briefly and put him away from you. This way your pet will understand that something went wrong and he is being punished for that.
Have Patience
As said earlier, pet potty training is not a one day affair, so patience is the keyword here. Do not lose your temper if the pet goes wrong. Think of it as a small human child. More accidents are likely to happen if you just keep on scolding. Pet potty training should be a proper mix of love and force.
