It would seem that gum is as popular as it has ever been, and now with the more expensive ‘designer’ gums on the market, more people are chewing than every before. Though there is certainly nothing wrong with gum, this also means that there is more of it laying around on the ground, and it also means that it can end up in places where people would least expect. This, in turn, leads to people wondering how to go about chewing gum removal. There are times when it might not come out, but often there is no need to get too upset, it can come off in most cases.
The most common place to find gum where you don’t want it is by stepping on it with your shoe. You may be upset, but consider yourself lucky. You could have been barefoot. When this happens, you can usually freeze the gum to get it off your shoe. You can’t do that right away, but you can scrap as much off as possible. Once you get home, you can stick something like a plastic bag or a piece of wax paper onto the gum, and then freeze the shoe. After a few hours the gum should peel right off the bottom of the shoe. This should work for chewing gum removal for anything that will fit in your freezer.
If you don’t have the option of freezing, you can try WD-40. I don’t know why it works, but it does. This stuff can also be used to get crayon off the wall and scuff marks from the floor. In most cases, you will have to let the spray sit on the gum for up to five minutes, but after that, you can generally wipe the gum off with a paper towel or a rag. Don’t forget to wipe the spray away after chewing gum removal as well. It can be quite slippery, and you don’t want to fall down.
If you end up with gum in the rug or in your hair, you may not have many options for chewing gum removal. You can’t really stick your head in the freezer, and even if you could, that would not get it off the individual strands. You probably don’t want o spray your hair with WD-40, but I guess that would be up to you. In both cases, you may just want to cut it out. Some say that peanut butter is a great chewing gum removal tool when it is in the hair or on a rug, but I have no idea if it works. I guess I certainly wouldn’t hurt to try before taking the step of having to cut it out.
