It is the end of one year and the beginning of a new one. Have you looked back at the year gone by? Are you satisfied with what you have accomplished? Whether the answer is yes or no, it's time to prepare for the new year. So, grab a pen, some paper and sit down to re-evaluate your desires, goals and plans.
4 Questions to ask yourself about your goals:
- Am I heading in the right direction?
- Are my goals in line with my desires?
- Are my plans in line with my goals?
- Are my actions getting me closer to my goals?
If your plans are no longer in step with your goals make the proper adjustments. Rewrite your goals if necessary. Your goals, plans and actions must all be working toward the same end or you fail. Success will come from thinking, preparing and planning.
Remember nothing happens by accident. You must make deliberate plans to make things happen.
ACTION STEP #1
Write down what you want to do in the next year, the next five years and the next ten years. You should spend at least one day on this exercise and write everything down. Just thinking about your dreams is not enough.
ACTION STEP #2
Write down all the goals you must complete in order to make your dreams happen. You shouldn't have any goal that doesn't advance your dreams and desires.
ACTION STEP #3
Put these goals in order and imagine how you are going to make these things happen. Then begin taking the necessary actions needed to complete your goals. Remember, goals will not be completed without action.
"There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it perhaps for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less." -- Kurt Hahn
Take a good long look at yourself, your dreams and your goals. Be honest with yourself but don't settle for less than you deserve. It is your choice to take make changes. No one else can do them for you. You have to take the action.
