I want to go on record right at the start of this article by saying that I wasn't born a great copywriter. I had a lot of help. Much of that help came from studying the masters. And while I may have not had direct access to a lot of them, there are still very easy ways to get an incredible education from the great copywriters who have come before us. This article is going to reveal some of my best kept educational resources that won't cost you a dime to use.
The late Gary Halbert, God rest his soul, was one of the greatest copywriters from way back when the only copywriting that was done was in the real world, or offline. Gary wrote some snail mail campaigns that would put a lot of today's copy to shame. The man was a genius and many of today's great copywriters learned from Gary Halbert. Well, you can still learn from the master. Believe it or not, Gary's old newsletters are still online. You will probably get more great copywriting tips from reading these than from just about any other resource. Just go to Google and look up the name "Gary Halbert" and you will find tons of information on him.
Another great copywriter of our time is Michel Fortin. His copywriting services go for about $15,000 a pop. No, the man is not cheap, but he is one of the best today, if not THE best. Well, Michel has his own web site. On it you will find tons of free copywriting tips that will help you greatly. It's amazing the amount of info that this guy shares free of charge. Of course the really great info you're going to have to dig into your wallet for.
But if you really want to study the masters, then there is probably no greater site than hardtofindads. This web site has photos of some of the greatest ads of all time by masters like Gary Halbert and Joe Karbo, who wrote the "Lazy Man's Way To Riches." If you want hard copies of these ads, they'll cost you around $300. But you can still view many of the photo copies for free. Some are easier to read than others.
There is no point in reinventing the wheel. The great copywriters who have come before us have paved the way for us. Take advantage of them as much as you can.
In the meantime, if you want more great copywriting tips that won't cost you an arm and a leg, check out the site in my signature. You'll be on your way to becoming a crackerjack copywriter in no time flat.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
