Changes that have occurred to Tier 1 general

In March this year it was announced by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) that there are going to be changes to Tier 1 general and also Tier 2, using a points based system. Some of the changes to Tier 1 general in the points based system include the following:

There will be some increases in the threshold for previous earnings
There will be the introduction of the bachelor degree, which has been used before
For those with previous earnings of £150,000 or more there will be a eligibility criteria of 75 points
There will be changes that points will only be scored if an applicant is earning £25,000 or more in the United Kingdom
The points awarded in respect of a person age will change, for example, older people will be able to now score points
The period of leave will now be reduced to two years from three years and there will also be a two year extension

A transitional period has been put in place for people already in the United Kingdom that are under Tier 1 general, HSMP, artists, writers and solicitors that are classed as self employed. This is to ensure that they are not put at a disadvantage due to the changes in the point scoring system.

It is believed that these changes will help people that have a bachelor degree or who earn a large amount of money to qualify in the points based system. However, it will be more difficult for Tier 1 applicants to change to Tier 1 general, due to higher earning thresholds.

If you need help and advice about Tier 1 general, then here at Danielle Cohen, we have friendly and extremely qualified people to answer any queries you may have or resolve any problems you may have with trying to get a UK work permit.
