Acrylic or a generic term for poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is a useful, clear plastic that resembles glass, but has properties that make it superior to glass in many ways. Developed in 1928 and introduced to the market in 1933 as Plexiglas. Today we commonly refer to acrylic glass as Plexiglas.
Since acrylic is easy to mold into various shapes, it is used to make various products, such as shower doors, bath enclosures, windows and skylights.
