When parents are choosing a daycare facility for their children, they should always check into the certification of the daycare teachers that work there. There are some privately owned facilities that do not require that the teachers that they have be certified in early childhood education and will hire someone based on how good they are with the children. While the ability to relate to the children is important, having a certified daycare teacher means that the people have been trained in the developmental phases of that age group of children and what is important to develop in those children during their preschool years. If the daycare is state run, the teachers are almost always certified daycare teachers. The main exception in these situations is the assistants to the teachers who may only have a high school diploma.

Quality of Work

Daycare preschool teachers will make varying amounts of money depending on their qualifications and the years of experience that they are bringing to the facility. There are assistants who are working without a college degree and are paid hourly, usually between minimum wage and ten dollars per hour. There are also assistants who have an associate's degree and are on some sort of salary, usually around fifteen thousand dollars per year. The certified daycare teachers who have their bachelor's degrees and have passed the state licensing exam will usually be paid between twenty-three thousand and thirty-one thousand dollars per year. If the certified daycare teacher has more experience, if they are running the facility or if they have a master's degree, the salary may be higher than the numbers stated above.

When parents are choosing a certified daycare teacher, it is a good idea to ask the owner or manager of the facility if they can stay and watch some of the classes taught by the teachers there. In this way the parents can get a feel for the teaching styles being used in the facility. The parents should drop in at different times of the day to see what is happening at those times and should ask to see a schedule of the events of the week so that they can ensure that the time is being spent productively and also with some fun. The schedule should be structured so that there is a rest time, play time as well as the class time in the preschool. All areas of the facility should be clean and bright so that the atmosphere is pleasant for the children to be in.
