Benefits and Pitfalls of a Daycare Teacher's Salary

by linkroll

posted in Home and Family : Daycare

The requirements for a daycare teacher depend on the state that the people are trying to teach in and the type of a daycare the school is. If the daycare is run by the state, the teaching requirements are often higher than if the daycare is a privately owned center. However, there are some privately owned centers that have very stringent requirements for their teachers because they want to be known as a preparatory school for children that are going to enter an Ivy League track of schooling. The daycare teacher's salary also depends on the state and the daycare where the people are working. In addition, as the person gains more experience, the salary will usually increase in a yearly step ratio based on the economy.

Norms

An average daycare teacher's salary today is about twenty-seven thousand dollars per year. This does not mean that this average is the beginning salary that a daycare teacher will earn fresh out of college with no experience. On the low end of the daycare teacher salary scale is the yearly income of about twenty-three thousand dollars and the high end of the scale is about thirty-two thousand dollars per year. This is not very much money per year and is usually enough to supplement an income but is not enough for an average sized family to live on.

Depending on the work environment, there are some bonuses and benefits that can be obtained by the daycare teacher in addition to the salary. There are often insurance packages that are offered by state run daycares that can save the employees a lot of money rather than having private insurance. Often the state will pull the insurance from the gross salary that the person makes so that the money is not taxed until the insurance payment has been removed, thus saving the person money. There are also usually the benefits of having a retirement plan when it is a state run organization rather than a privately held daycare so that the person can work in the same place and retire without worrying about how to support himself after that time. There are disability benefits, pension benefits and time off that is also allotted in addition to a daycare teacher salary, however, it varies from place to place and the work environment. A daycare teacher's salary plus all of the benefits can help to keep a small family in the black, but it is not ideal for a larger family, especially one that is living on one income.
