Tooth Whitening Basics by Charles Uwalaka

Do you want a brighter smile with confidence? The only answer to that is by having a tooth whitening treatment. Your stained and discolored teeth can be made to be whiter and brighter with the help of a tooth whitening system.

Tooth whitening of four or three shades are easily achieved unlike what others are claiming of obtaining up to nine shades of whiteness with their product. Actually, they are exaggerating.

Our teeth are not uniformly white. The two front teeth are whiter than others, while the molars are the darkest. Therefore, the most important thing in tooth whitening is to achieve maximum whiteness of your teeth and the same time having your natural teeth white color. However, tooth whitening procedure type and your teeth structure determines how white your teeth will be after the whitening process. This could vary from one individual to another.

There are many reasons why your teeth have stains and discolorations. Staining of teeth could be caused, especially, by tobacco, age, coffee, chemical damage, cola soft drinks or tea. Use of antibiotics, like tetracycline and too much fluoride also cause teeth staining. Genetics and diseases are other factors that can affect the color of your teeth. Naturally, there are people who inherited whiter teeth enamel from their parents.

With tooth whitening, tooth discoloration can removed. A lot of techniques exist which can be used to achieve this. Such techniques are mild acid whitening, abrasive teeth whitening, chemical whitening, laser tooth whitening.

Tooth whitening is a technique used by dentist to whiten the teeth of his patients with the use of a chemical compound. The technique can take place at the patient's home, in the dentist clinic, or starting at the clinic and finishing at home.

In tooth whitening techniques, the dentist starts by molding a customized mouth tray which will be used by the patient. The design of the mouth tray is important because it determines the quantity of whitening gel to be used. It also holds all the teeth to ensure even whitening. The oral health care professional should ensure that the patient is giving adequate instructions and equipments needed. As you treat at home, contact your dentist if you are not sure of what to do.

The mouth tray always contains a whitening solution you can wear overnight or as advised by your dentist or recommended by the literature of the product. It could take 2 to 3 hours for the session to last. However, this depends on the product and your own whitening need.
