Foods to Avoid for a Pre Diabetic Diet

You might think that going organic if you are diagnosed with pre-diabetes is great. After all, fruits and vegetables are truly some of the best sources of health giving nutrients. Some however, are not very much advisable for consumption by a pre-diabetic individual.

 

Pre-diabetes is a medical condition which is prior to the full-blown diabetes. It is characterized by a high glucose level. Medical attention is much needed to prevent it from worsening and becoming diabetes. In Pre Diabetic Diet, an individual afflicted with the said condition needs to be very careful on what he or she eats. There are some healthy foods that are not advisable for pre diabetic patients to eat. Simple carbohydrates must be avoided at all times; these produce food cravings and initiate weight gain.

 

Some examples of simple carbohydrates are:

 

-          Table sugar and honey

-          Biscuits, cakes, and some puddings

-          Chocolate, candies, and toffee

-          Jam and fudge

-          Mint and boiled sweets

-          Soft drinks and pickles

 

Fruits made up mostly of simple carbohydrates are:

-          Apples

-          Black berries and blackcurrants

-          Cherries and cranberries

-          Grapefruit and kiwi

-          Melon, oranges and peaches

-          Plum, raspberries and strawberries

 

Foods with simple carbohydrates are basically health-threatening to a person with a high glucose level. The fruits found above may be consumed by a pre-diabetic individual but at a minimum. Fruits containing more simple carbohydrates do not necessarily create cravings, but they still contain sugar. And sugar is what pre diabetic patients should avoid.

 

Include in the Pre Diabetic Diet complex carbohydrates instead. They are less likely to produce weight gain and cravings. Complex carbohydrates increase energy level, and this is very good for health maintenance. They help the body use up most of its stored fats and energy, and are less likely to raise blood sugar levels.
