Local Traffic

by Slavko Jersic

posted in Automotive : Driving

Driving back and forth to work everyday can be a tedious undertaking. For many people who take the same route day after day, they know exactly what time to leave their home to get to work on time. If a problem crops up on the interstate it can leave them anguished, frustrated and worried about being late. Thats why its a great idea to check the local traffic report before you step foot out of the house.

Most local television channels have updates on both the weather and road conditions every few minutes in the morning. If you check that local traffic report it can offer you some insight into any stalls or delays that are on your way to work. When you see a problem on the program while you are still at home, you can either leave a little early to compensate or take another route.

Some of us just dont have that much foresight and we dont see a problem until we reach a long line of traffic that is standing still. Nothing seems worse than hearing the blaring of car horns as everyone realizes they arent going to reach the office in time.

Even if you dont watch television in the morning there is still a way for you to know whats going on in your local area. If you check email before leaving for work you can also check the local traffic tie ups. Just log on to a local news website and they will likely have up to the minute road reports.

Your car can be just as informative in a very different way. Instead of listening to your favorite new CD on the way to work, switch over to the radio. Most radio stations offer their listeners a local traffic report every couple of minutes. With any luck, youll hear about the problems on your route well before you get there.

Coming home can be just as tricky. Its always dicey when you leave work around the same time as most of your citys population. Rush hour isnt any fun whether its first thing in the morning or after a long day of work. You can still get a leg up if you look up the local traffic situation online or turn on your radio the minute you get into the car.

If you want to avoid all the problems that come with being on the road during the busiest times, consider changing your work hours. Going into and leaving work even one hour earlier or later each day can make a huge difference in the volume of traffic on the roads. Its a good idea not only because youll likely get to work or home quicker, but also because there is much less of a possibility of you being in an accident.
