So you have your tropical fish tank and the food and everything else and you think you are all ready to go, but before you get any tropical fish you should really take the time to learn about the different tropical fish diseases. At least by learning about the most common tropical fish diseases, you will learn how to spot these early on so that if your fish ever do develop a disease you can hopefully take care of it right way and keep them from dying.
Ammonia Poisoning
A very common problem among tropical fish diseases is ammonia poisoning. The cause of this is too much organic waste being present and then the load becomes simply too much for the bacteria to handle. You will notice that the fish are suffering from this if the gills of the fish turn a lilac color and tend to hang sluggishly just below the water.
There is a treatment that you can use in this situation however, and what you want to do is find the cause of the organic waste and then remove it. As long as you notice this early on enough and deal with the problem, the fish should be okay.
Whitespot
Another very commonly talked about of the tropical fish diseases is known as Whitespot. This is probably the problem if you notice that there are small white dots on the head, body and fins of the fish. This is a very common disease and so you do not have to be so worried, but as soon as you notice any of these white spots on your fish, you are going to want to deal with it right away.
For this disease you want to find the right formula to treat whitespot, which you can find at pretty much any fish store, and you can also use salt.
Dropsy
Another of the most common tropical fish diseases is Dropsy. If you notice that the scales on your fish seem to be a bit raised and the fish look a bit more bloated than normal, this may be the problem. Most times with this disease a bacterial infection is involved and the cause could be any number of things such as poor water conditions.
As long as you are aware of the most common fish diseases and how to treat them, then your fish should stay healthy and live long lives.
