If you go to any country in Europe or you travel to the United States of America you are sure to find restaurants and takeaways selling Italian, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, French and even Lebanese food, yet you will be hard pressed to find anywhere that sells Bulgarian cuisine even though it is the tastiest food available.
Because Bulgaria is on the south eastern edge of Europe where east and west meets, Bulgaria really enjoys food that has eastern and western influences mixed together to make something truly special.
From salads to meat dishes, sweets to drinks, Bulgaria has something to offer even the most advanced palette.
Take the summer drink Airan; it is a simple mix of natural yoghurt and water that is chilled in the fridge to really give a tasty, refreshing drink when the sun is beating down on those hot lazy days in July and August.
One Bulgarian meal that really does take an influence from east and west is called Sermi, this is a wonderful dish of rice and minced meat mixed together and cooked in a vine leaf or sour cabbage leaf. Sermi is a mouth watering mix of flavours that really engage the taste buds and have you salivating for more.
There are many Bulgarian salads that will really leave you wanting more, but a favourite among many Bulgarian people and an easy salad to make is bean salad which is a simple mix of butter beans, onion, parsley and olive oil. This salad is so quick and easy to make, yet so tasty you will find it made in many Bulgarian homes.
Bulgarian food has took a back seat to the food of many other nations, yet has so much to offer the people of the world as its infused mix of eastern and western flavours give a mouth watering taste that many cannot forget.
