A Personal Review of the George Foreman 18603 Ten Portion Grill and Griddle

In recent months I've reviewed quite a few electric barbecue grills. This after I became aware that ownership of these items has dramatically increased over time. Occasionally I come across a product that genuinely impresses me. This is one of those occasions and I'd like to share it with you. It doesn't qualify as a barbecue as such, being instead a combined grill and griddle.
For well over a decade George Foreman's 'lean, mean, fat reducing grilling machines' have been part of many families daily life. They've become a staple item as a perfect wedding or Christmas gift and millions have been sold around the world. These 'clamp' type grills are very well known, but a new variant has arrived. It's not just a 'clamp' grill, and it's not just a griddle - it's both!
This new, inexpensive and very attractive new device is known as the George Foreman 18603 Ten portion Grill and Griddle. It is meant for indoor use, though there is really no problem using it outside, weather permitting.
Physically it is approximately 58cms by 34cms divided along its length into two parts. To the left side is the 'clamp' grill. This takes up 1/3 of the overall length. The other 2/3 is made up of a flat plate griddle. The whole cooking surface is non-stick and both ends drain into a common oil and waste reservoir which makes cleaning so much easier. The total power of the UK model is 2,180 watts. The exciting thing about this is that the heating elements for the two grilling surfaces are independently adjustable - something that is not common on units at this sort of low price.
The lid on the covered part of the grill is on floating hinges. This is very useful for thicker cuts of meat or uneven foodstuffs like vegetables as the lid adjusts to suit the food. This is also of value for heating or toasting sandwiches. The heat to surface area of this grill makes it ideal for many types of cooking. At its simplest you can easily imagine a full cooked family breakfast, but you can do so much more.
George Foreman's 'clamp' type grills are excellent for cooking all sorts of meats while removing excess fats, and this one is no exception. If you're cooking for a small family you could grill the meat portion of the meal on the grill and keep it warm on the griddle at a lower temperature.
About the Author: This new George Foreman grill and griddle will be welcomed in any kitchen for its pure convenience of use and ease of cleaning. If you would like more information visit my Electric BBQ Grills Review. where you'll find the 18603 model along with many others.
