Positive Attitude - The Attitude of Gratitude by Andrew Grant

If you want a really great start to each and every day of your life, then you need to develop an attitude of gratitude. Taking time to take stock and appreciate what is good in our lives, helps us to see things in better perspective and understand that our problems are not insurmountable.

Try to spend ten minutes every morning in silent contemplation of everything positive that surrounds you. It doesn’t matter when you do it, whether it’s lying in bed on first waking or jogging round the block; the key question is, what should we be grateful for?

Health. Those of us who are fit and healthy should remember this every day and remember that many others are not so fortunate. Be thankful to be alive and able to live our lives to the full in a healthy body which feels great and full of vitality. Those of us who suffer from health problems must be equally grateful for life and take a positive attitude to our problems, as worrying about them achieves nothing and can even make the problem worse.

Love. Be grateful for the love in your life. Remember the family around you and how much they care for you. They may not always show it and sometimes they may drive you crazy but they are there for you and you are there for them, so concentrate on the good and not the negative. Friends too are a vital source of love and support, so be sure to include them in your thoughts.

Wealth. You may not feel wealthy, in fact you may feel downright poor, but compared to many millions of others you are positively swamped in privilege. Do you have a roof over your head? Do you know where your next meal is coming from? Are you warm, dry and nourished. Be grateful for these things, they are not to be taken fro granted.

Happiness. Once again, you may not feel like the happiest person alive, but if you can just see past your problems and concentrate on your advantages, you will see that you have a lot to be grateful for here too. Did you smile today? Did someone make you laugh? Is there something you love to do that absorbs and enthuses you? Remember these things and shrug off the frowns and misery.

Capabilities. Finally be grateful for what you can do. Every one of us has unique talents and skills; take a little time to remember what you are good at, what you enjoy doing and what sets you apart from others. Are you admired at work for one thing? Are you a good parent? Can you run faster, climb higher, draw more skillfully, play better or simply have more fun than those around you? Appreciate your talents and resolve to nurture them.

The more you think of to be grateful for, the more you will find and the more you will understand the process. Try this exercise every day for the next seven days and you will be amazed at how much better life will be.
