Our subconscious mind is very powerful, and having specific goals helps to channel that subconscious mind into working towards that goal. We set a goal in order to have something in life to aim for. It is vital that we strive to achieve something. If we do not, then our very purpose to life seems to be missing. In other words, the whole point of setting a goal is to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life.
In addition, making life better in some way seems to be ingrained in our nature. One asks how can I be happier, healthier, wiser, or freer. You can use goals for a better job, better living conditions, improved health, and much more. Goal setting is an excellent tool for creating a successful better life.
Goal setting techniques are used by top-level athletes, successful business-people and achievers in all fields. They give you long-term vision and short-term motivation. In setting goals, first you create your big picture of what you want to do with your life, and then decide what large-scale goals you want to achieve. Second, you break these down into the smaller and smaller targets that you must hit so that you reach your lifetime goals. Finally, once you have your plan, you start working to achieve it.
Remember that in order to set effective goals, you have to state each goal as a positive statement. You have to be precise, to set priorities, to write your goals down, to keep operational goals small, and to set realistic and believable goals of life.
