1 Stretch the muscle to the point of its greatest range of motion, but do not overextend. You should feel very minimal tightness/ discomfort(but not pain).
2 Avoid holding your breath since this increases blood pressure and general muscular tension.
3 Hold and control the stretch for at least 30 seconds to 60 seconds maximum.
4 Do not overstretch an injured area as this may cause additional damage.
5 Never bounce when stretching as this may increase your chances of incurring injury. When stretching, remember to stay relaxed and take your time-do not be rushed.
