Problems With Whole House Water Filters Are Usually The Result of Inferior Filtration Systems by Martin Spencer

Most problems with whole house water filters stem from the incompleteness of the system and the use of older filtration technology. The most up-to-date systems use a multi-stage process that begins with sediment removal, then chlorine filtration, and finally carbon filtering to improve taste, remove more impurities, and increase clarity in the final stage.

This complete process requires just one filter which lasts for three years. The total cost of this system over that three year time span is just ten cents a gallon. It’s just incredible when you realize that for a tenth of the cost of bottled water, which is totally unregulated and has been declared no better than tap, you can have hassle free filtered water at every faucet in you house. To thus solve the whole house water filter problems is an incredible feat, but with the best filtration systems, it becomes easy.

The advantages of using whole house systems abound. Scientists now estimate that because of the huge amounts of agricultural runoff in the forms of pesticides and fertilizers as well as industrial and household cleanser pollutants, there are 2,100 types of cancer causing chemicals in today’s tap water.

It’d be great to think that we could march down to Washington and demand higher quality tap water, but we’d have to go with several million of our closest friends to have any impact on policy. To convert current treatment plants so that they did more than simply prevent the most horrific diseases like typhoid and dysentery and remove the most horrible bacteria like E. coli would cost the government hundreds of millions of dollars if not billions. They’re not prepared to spend one dime more on water, so it’s up to the individual to protect themselves and their families from the latent dangers in tap water.

A whole house filtration system is the most cost effective and efficient way to accomplish this goal, although it is very important to choose a system that uses the multi-stage process outlined above. Some older systems like reverse osmosis and distillation still claim to be the best way to ensure healthful and good tasting water, but nothing could be further from the truth. These older systems create problems with whole house water filters instead of solving them.

These older systems rely on outdated technology and even older science to justify their existence. The fact is that recent research shows that the minerals removed by reverse osmosis and distillation are the very things that we need in our water. These minerals are healthy and necessary, and removing them actually reduces the water quality.

Likewise, these processes do little to remove the carcinogens that have become the main danger in tap water. Whereas multi-stage filtering removes nearly all of these pollutants and adds to the taste and clarity of the water, reverse osmosis and distillation have an adverse effect on the taste, causing water to be virtually tasteless, and they leave pollutants at their tap levels.

Whole house water filter problems are best addressed through the most advanced water technology. This will ensure that the water you drink, cook and shower with is as pure as it can possibly be.
