There are many ways that you can keep your children busy during the summer. If you work, this can be a challenge for you. Children will miss the stimulation that they have gotten throughout the year through school, so you have to have some things lined up so that they do not get too bored. They should always have some downtime, but find some activities that they are going to love. You can do camps if you wish. There are day camps, but many children end up loving it when they go away to sleepover camps.
I was weary, as a child, the first time I went away to sleepover camps. The ones I went to happened each year, and were part of my church. Our camp was about an hour away, and I remember being both excited and scared as we drove that hour. I knew that once my mom dropped me off at these sleepover camps, she was not going to be close by if I needed her. The first time I went was only for three nights, so that did help a little. However, just as I was getting used to being there, it was time to go.
The next few years I went for an entire week to sleepover camps. My adjustment time was just one night. Most of the other kids there were crying a bit the first night, but we had so much fun that we were fine by the next night. These sleepover camps have staff that are aware that there are always going to be some kids that have a harder time adjusting, and even some that are going to have to go home. They are always on the lookout for children that need extra attention. If you are sending your child, make sure the staff knows if there could be a huge problem. You know your children the best.
Sleepover camps do not have to be through a church, though those are a lot of fun if you belong to a congregation. They are about religion, but they do not always dwell on that all day long. There are some really great things that can go on, and these sleepover camps are designed to put the fun in summer without missing the point for being there. In fact, I am not an overly religious person, but some of my favorite childhood memories come from the time I spent at these camps as a child.
When looking for sleepover camps for your kids, think about what they like to do. There are so many with themes these days that you should have no trouble finding one that your children are going to love. At times, you can send all of your children to the same sleepover camps at once. That means a free few days or week for you to spend with your spouse or your friends. Just remember their personalities when choosing, and expect a phone call or two until they are adjusting to the short change in sleeping arrangements.
