How To Find Out If A Property Is A Foreclosed Home

Many home buyers, especially first time home buyers, look to see if any foreclosed homes are available on the market first because they can get a great deal on one instead of paying the fair market price for a traditionally listed home. In order to take advantage of the foreclosed homes you first need to know if the home you're looking at is actually in foreclosure.

As with any home that you are looking to purchase, you will make out a lot better if you have all available information in your hands. Whether or not this is a foreclosed home is something that you need to be aware of. The tax assessor or country recorder will be able to inform you of the status of this home and any other homes in the neighborhood as well. This is valuable information in your home search.

Another resource that you have available to your disposal is all the real estate agents that are available on the market. If the home that you are interested in is in foreclosure with any of the government agencies such as HUD or FHA a real estate agent will be able to give this information to you. They must be certified to deal with FHA and HUD homes though or the information will not be at their disposal.

You can also get other foreclosed home listings that are available on the market from these agents. Most of them have extensive foreclosure listings available to them. Many of them are responsible for managing the homes extensively including showing them. If the agent that you have been working with doesn't have access to the government agency listed homes, they may be able to point you in the direction of a real estate owned property agent who has this information.

The internet is also a great resource for you to use. Many databases are available on the internet for people to utilize personally without needing to work through an agent. The only problem with many of these is that they want to charge you a fee in order to access them but you can work around this by signing up for one of the many free trial offers that are available. You can use this trial period to gather any information that you may need or have an interest in on properties. Once this trial period has been expired, you can probably get the same information from another site that offers free trials. Rotate the many trials available so that you have access to this information for as long as possible. You can also use the search function that many of these sites have available to find more suitable homes that meet your criteria.

Another way that you can find foreclosed homes is simply by driving up and down streets in the neighborhood to find signs that list homes that are in foreclosure or bank owned. Also comb through newspapers for public auction listings along with the government agencies such as Fannie Mae which have foreclosed homes listed.
