Cold sores are quite common and so you certainly should not feel bad or embarrassed if you find that you have developed a cold sore. However, you are going to want to take the time to learn more about them so that you can understand about them and know how to get rid of them properly. They are definitely unsightly and no one feels pretty when they have a cold sore on their lip.
The Details
Cold sores are similar to blisters. They usually develop on or right around the lip, but people have developed them in other areas as well. In most cases there will only be one cold sore at a time but often times, cold sores will appear together and can even appear in clusters. The typical duration of a cold sore is around seven to ten days, and this is as long as you are not picking at it or causing it to get more irritated.
The worst thing that you can do when you have cold sores is pick at them and so you want to leave them alone and only use proper treatments.
Treatment
Fortunately there are quite a few different options for treatment that you can use to deal with cold sores. Each case is different and so the best way for a person to deal effectively with a cold sore is to get in to their doctor first. They are going to be able to take a look at the cold sore and see which treatment they think is going to work best. Some people are also stubborn against certain treatments, and so what may work for one person just may not work well for you.
Once you have had an episode of herpes infection which is what cold sores are, you have to remember that the virus can lie dormant in the nerve cells of the skin. So this means that just because you may use treatment and be able to get rid of the sight of the cold sore, this doesn’t mean that they are not going to just end up coming back soon after.
The best treatment is to use a product such as Abreva which is applied directly onto the skin over the cold sore and which helps to get rid of the cold sore, usually within as little as a few days. There are similar treatments that are available as well but this is one of the most effective.
