My Best Friend Passed Away Last Week

For the last 14 years my best friend didn't speak much, he sure as heck barked a lot. He was a Carin Terrier who feared no one! He was a great watch dog and playmate to my three girls Samantha, Jill and Emily. We got him when he was 3 months old. From the beginning my best friend loved to sleep in our bed, later as time went on, he was unable to jump on the bed he slept under it.

We communicated with hand signals, whistles, and key words. Our routine began each day at 5:00AM. We went for our daily walk around the neighborhood. He always looked forward to these walks because he had to claim his territory by spraying on every tree on our block. Dogs are funny this way.

Copper was a Sun Worshiper who enjoyed hanging outside our back yard. He would swim in the pool with us and enjoyed the warmth of the sun. Towards the end, when it became painful to walk, he barked at me to take him outside to be near the girls. He would never allow them to leave his watchful eyes.

He was truly a friend to everyone. My neighbors knew us as Copper`s Family, they never knew my name, they knew Copper. Strange how we as neighbors identify each other. In our neighborhood, every other home has a dog!

Last Friday, Copper and I went for our daily walk, we feed him, he started barking at the girls as he always did and than walked into our bedroom to take a nap. At 9:00AM i called him for his last morning walk, there was no answer. I decided to check on him and see why he wasn't responding. He was under my bed as usual, only this time he was asleep for eternity.

My girls and i are still in a state of disbelief as we keep seeing Copper around the house. God Bless you Buddy! We miss you!
