Is There Such a Thing As a Cell Phone Directory?

It's easy to find someone's landline number. Unless you specifically request it, and pay for the service, your landline will be a matter of public record. You would think that you could just as easily look up cell phone numbers online. But that isn't the case. An all inclusive cell phone data base doesn't yet exist.

A cell phone number is not a matter of public record so it isn't so easy to find. And many people would consider that a good thing. I personally want my cell phone number to be confidential, don't you? One difference between the two is that if someone calls you on your landline, it won't cost you anything. On some cell phone plans, you pay regardless of who made the call. It would burn most people up to spend their money talking to solicitors and telemarketers who have called their cell phone.

However, things might be changing. There is an interesting twist to this scenario. There are now search engines that let you search for a cell phone user by entering their cell phone number on a reverse lookup phone directory. There are many reasons you might want to lookup cell numbers. You might what to track where those hang ups come from or you find the owner of a number on your phone bill.

Reverse cell phone call reports can be purchased individually or you can pay for a service that let's you can do unlimited searches. There are places you can lookup a phone number for free, but you will get very limited information, usually just the town and city of the caller and that often isn't right. For example, it will probably show the nearest major city rather than the actual town or suburb the callers lives in. You can always try a free search first, but if that doesn't work out, consider using a reverse phone look up paid service. Do some research to find a reputable one. The world of public records searches is full of services that don't deliver what they promise or have hidden fees. Always read the "terms of agreement" carefully before you purchase any kind of phone number lookup service or public record search.

If you have the person's landline number, you might want to do a reverse number check on that number first. It may be easier to find. It may be easier to find.

So the answer to our original questions, do cell phone directories exist, the answer is not yet. No telling what will happen in the future, but until cell phone directories become a matter of public record, cell phone records are relatively private.
