Many of us have been there – every day hundreds of people walk into an intimidating office for their first day at work whilst desperately trying to mop the sweat oozing from their stressed forehead without looking creepy.
Starting a new job is difficult, trying and terrifying for people who don't like change and disorder. That's why it's all important that bosses try to make new starters feel as comfortable as possible. A calm and collected staff member will work far better than a scared soul afraid of upsetting the balance of personalities within the office.
So if you want your targets to be reached and profits to rise, be kind to staff from the moment they enter the door to your office space and follow a few simple tips.
Let the existing employees know when a new member of staff is about to join the business. Inform them that they should be welcoming and respectful to the worker so that they can settle in from the get-go.
Make sure you introduce the new recruit to the rest of the staff on the morning they arrive. You could even assign them a present employee to be their first port of call if they face any minor problems instead of heading to their senior line manager. This will help to build friendships too!
Train the new starter comprehensively but always allow them to ask questions if they feel they need to – they will be of no use to the business if they trot along aimlessly, unaware of their key tasks and roles.
After the first month set up an appraisal so that the employee can raise any further concerns and you can speak to them about their talents and successes within the company. Criticism can be incorporated into the meeting but make sure it's put across in a productive fashion.
Keep this in mind and new staff workers starting their first day of employment on this very day, from Denver offices to Denmark offices will be grateful that you have taken the time to make their lives a little easier.
