4. Not following directions
5. Not being accountable
6. Spending too much money
7. Not spending any money
8. Thinking too small
9. Not being willing to put in effort
10. Not being committed
#1 Not having a plan
Most successful businesses that I have seen have some sort of a plan, some sort of a direction that they are going in. I would have to say that the #1 problem with Newbie Internet Marketers is that they do not have a plan. Maybe they got involved on a whim, but they really have no idea what they really want to achieve.
#2 Promoting a company website
This is certainly a huge mistake. Typically company websites are just not designed as marketing websites. You want to be able to “capture” your visitors names and email so you can market to them later. Any time I see someone promoting a MLM company website… I think to myself “amature”!!
#3 Trying to do it by yourself
There is a lot of this out there as well. This one is a little bit more subtle, but the truth of the matter is that you do not need to reinvent the wheel. There are certain steps that you (successful) upline will tell you to do. If you work with them, create a partnership, they will keep you on track.
The road to success is somewhat narrow, but the road to heck is paved with good intentions.
Get a friend, a buddy, a sponsor, or someone to help guide you and stay on the right track
#4 Not following directions
Again this one can be a little subtle. If I am your upline, I am going to tell you to do certain things. I tell you this because we want you to be successful and make the system work for you. When someone wants to go off and do their own thing, I know that they are heading for trouble. If you don’t follow instructions, you will have difficulty ahead.
No that is not to say that trying new things, or experimenting is not a good idea, but lets do that after we have your business fundamentals set.
#5 Not being accountable
This one is my pet peeve. If you join a business, and you are serious about growing it, Why are you not returning your phone calls? Why are you not reading your emails?
This leads your upline to assume that you are just not serious. That may or may not be the case, but you need to make specific goals with your upline, and be accountable to track your progress. Upline doesn’t mind getting phone calls and updates from downline. They need to hear from you.
#6 Spending too much money
This one you have to be really careful about. Thousands of people spend more money than they are making with their Home based businesses. They think that at some point their downline will grow and they will be profitable. Problem is that 97% of all mlm’s and HBB fail. Counting on a future profit may or may not be a wise decision. Make sure that you account for ALL the money that you are spending in your business. If you are not running at a profit in the beginning, then to expect that you will be running a profit later could be a mistake.
#7 Not spending any money
Sounds contradictory doesn’t it? I mean we tell you not to spend too much money on #6 and then tell you that it is a problem if you don’t spend any money… Well I believe that it is a problem. If you do not spend ANY money to try to promote your business you will have a problem. When it comes time to promote your business, you will not be able to promote It quick enough to have success.
Your successful upline or coach will be able to tell you where to most effectively spend your promotion budget. If you can not afford to spend some money on your business, you should get out of the business, and go get a traditional “job” until your situation improves.
Does that mean that people can’t be successful without spending money? Not at all. It has just been our experience that people that are unwilling to spend money will have many more barriers to their success.
However, for the price of a couple of packs of cigarettes, or 5-10 sodas in a month, or the cost of cable tv, we can do some amazing things with promotion…
Get the picture?
#8 Thinking too small
Most HBB’s and MLM’s have incredible potential and earning ability. Why would you limit yourself in your thinking?
You need to dream big!! The bigger your goal, the more “stuff” you’ll put up with to get there. Have extragent dreams and goals. Put them on paper. Share them with the world!! Your dreams and goals will be the “fuel” for your business. Dream BIG!!
#9 Not willing to put in the effort
I think this mistake of Newbies is easily fixable. If you are not willing to put in the time, effort, energy, and money necessary to seriously grow your business, then you should just get out of it all together.
You are really doing a disservice to your upline, your company ,and yourself to keep thinking that “someday” your going to do something when you really aren’t going to do anything.
Relieve yourself of the responsibility and just step out of the business.
We have several businesses that we run, and if we come across people that have joined but then are unwilling to work, we just ask them why they joined in the first place.
If they are “too busy” or whatever, we just tell them to extricate themselves from the business. This gives them a clear conscious to attend to their lives.
If you are not willing to do “whatever it takes” to grow your business, then it will be tough going for you. Don’t drag down your upline, and your support system if you are not willing to put in the time effort and energy.
#10 Not being commited
This one goes along with #9. Somewhere along the line, you need to commit to something. Even if it is a little think, like calling one person, you need to make that commitment.
If you are not committed to anything, nothing will be the result. Get with your sponsor or your successful upline and make at least one small commitment for what you will do this week!!
Hope this helps
