There are several types of metal found in the Earth's crust, all over the world. Fascinating compositions and brilliant lusters are just a few of the spectacular characteristics we admire about alloys and metallic minerals. One of its greatest characteristics is that it can be recycled over and over again; and used in various industries and in various angles. Whether precious or standard, all alloys are useful commodities in today's world; from medicine to manufacturing, and much more. Continue reading to learn about the most common recyclable alloys mined today.
Recycling Purposes
Many alloys can be recycled over and over again, as mentioned before; however, some metals are not commonly recycled due to their degree of exclusivity. For example, around-the-corner metal recycling companies aren't likely to see someone recycling precious metals like gold or silver. Instead, these types of precious metals are taken to refurbishing shops and manufacturers to be used for jewelry and other equally sophisticated items.
Metals that are recycled on a regular basis and commonly seen at a scrap metal yard include ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Ferrous metal contains iron while nonferrous metals do not. The easiest way to determine whether or not the alloy you question is ferrous or nonferrous is by using a magnet. If the magnet sticks to it, then it is most likely ferrous. Refer to the list below for a list of ferrous alloys. If the magnet does not stick, then the item is a non-ferrous material.
Non-ferrous alloys are worth more money than ferrous alloys. Although ferrous metals are not worth much, they are still accepted at scrap metal yards and can be recycled for good use. Check out the list below of ferrous and nonferrous alloys that can be recycled for cash at any local scrap yard in your town:
  • Stainless Steel
  • Iron
  • Carbon Steel
  • Mild Steel
  • Cast/Wrought Iron
  • Iron

  • Copper
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Lead
  • Tin
  • Titanium
  • Zinc
  • Nickel

Non-Ferrous Precious Metals that Can Be Recycled
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Platinum

Exotic & Precious Non-Ferrous
  • Cobalt
  • Bismuth
  • Beryllium
  • Zirconium
  • Cadmium
  • Mercury
  • Tungsten
  • And More

These alloys and any commodity that contains traces of these metals can be recycled and reused over and over again. This avenue of recycling is a fantastic way to preserve our natural resources and surrounding environment. Also, most scrap alloy companies offer cash for recyclable alloys. The value of the alloy generally determines the amount of money a person can earn from recycling ferrous and nonferrous materials. Also, the weight and bulk of the metal contributes to the monetary return.
