As the political season ramps up one is often reminded of how the media scrutinizes, purposely ignores, and is very selective of who they will cover in regards to their own set criteria as a viable candidate. Today's realm of reality the media can literally make or break a candidate's political aspirations. Like in that Gary Cooper movie "Meet John Doe." It was the media that created the persona that carried a little unknown into the national spotlight.
In typical fashion today the media has created that John Doe in this Presidential campaign season. The only difference is the John Doe in that movie didn't have the name recognition that Donald Trump already has. It seems that for the past 40 years of American politics it is the media that has become the biggest reason why our political process has become so corrupt. The more money involved the more corrupt our political process becomes. It has made a mockery of our democratic process. This is the reality we face today. The public is rarely informed of the ideas and solutions for today's many urgent crisis.
When the media becomes so tunnel visioned in their reporting the public is unable to grasp the seriousness of other urgent crisis that just may be around the corner lying in wait to wreck havoc on an unspecting public. It has happened so often in the past. One prime example occurred back in 1974. This is when the media was so intrusive and quite determined to keep focusing on Watergate the American public were blind sided by the energy crisis that soon hit the United States.
When so much attention is focused and directed in one or two areas of concern whether the facts are true or not the more exposure the media gives the more the public sees and interprets what they see or read as truths whether they are true of not. It is like that old saying in journalism "When the legend becomes fact print the legend."
In light of what is being reported today has heavily favored a certain agenda far removed from the real concerns facing so many millions of Americas. It is unequivocal that the media is carefully and stealthy manipulated by certain individuals who already have an agenda that just maybe so contrary to the crisis that affect the majority of Americans today. Underreported or not even mentioned there are too many areas of real eminent distress that the American people have to realize before a major crisis hit. Like hurricane warnings the media has a responsibility to inform the public the dangers of not preparing for natural disasters. Is our infrastructure, our lack of living wage jobs, the fragmentation of the family unit, the distress of the mentally ill and so many more urgent and pressing problems that ought to be focused upon are so often ignored, deemed not relevant, and not in the interest of those who actually control the press?
As sobering as that question is in reality is the fact that the American public has to take steps to hold the media accountable. What would happen if the media failed to warn us about an impending natural disaster that they knew in advance was headed for certain areas of the country? But, too often the type of reporting that should and ought to be reported is underreported and instead news that really isn't pertinent to solving the many problems we face today is now deemed relevant pushing the real issues aside. It is imperative that the many forms of journalism and news reporting are non bias and bring to the public information that will lead to solving the many urgent crisis of our times. Until "We the People" hold the media accountable and that includes political finance reform where the media is involved in reducing and even eliminating the high cost of political advertising the sooner the American public can start the discussion toward solving the many ills of our country. In doing so the many forms of corruption in our political process can be avoided.
