Diet and Fitness - The Key To Staying Younger Than Your True Age by Patricia Zelkovsky

Physical fitness is an important element in maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle. It has allowed some people to live to a ripe old age of 100 or more. With the likelihood most of you will live longer lives; it is to everyone's benefit to continue to exercise the mind as well as the body. Let's explore ways in which you can.

Maintain a diet regimen filled with healthy foods consisting of fruits, leafy green vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, low fat dairy products, nuts, green tea, vitamins and minerals. Limit your intake of whole milk, cheese, chocolate, ice cream, cake, eggs, fried foods, red meat, sugar, salt, and trans fat. NutriSystem has a wonderful and healthy diet plan available which is not only filling, but is prepared and prepackaged using portion control. Check out their site for their latest and newest foods and recipes.

Exercise regularly; not only your body but your mind as well. Engage in word games and puzzles to keep your mind active and aware. Take up any exercise program of your choosing; whether it's routine walking, jogging or running. Join a gym where the professionals can introduce you to equipment, thus honing in on your problem areas. Or purchase a stationary bike, and keep it in your home. Twenty minutes every other day or night will produce guaranteed results. Swimming is another great exercise; as are aerobics, yoga, TaeBo or dancing. Engage in these exercises with friends; make it a fun activity.

Surely you've heard the old adage; "You are as young as you feel." Are you feeling younger or older than your age? If you answered older then it's time to replace negativity with positive reinforcement. In order to accomplish any difficult task in life, you need to have a positive outlook. You can do whatever you set out to do; you have the strength, the willingness and the drive to do it. Therefore, you can. Don't allow stress or anxiety to dictate how you live; be in charge of your own life, don't let life get in the way. More importantly, don't allow anyone to tell you how you should look. Falling into that trap can bring about low self-esteem and depression. Love yourself; look in the mirror every day and say out loud, "You are one terrific person!"

Help others and give aid when ever you can. What you give is returned a hundred-fold. A selfless act has many healthy and emotional rewards. Don't worry about things you can't control; control the things which dispel the worry. There is a wonderful saying, "It is better to light a candle, instead of cursing the dark." Remember that the next time you start to beat yourself up. You are not going to be perfect; no one ever is. You will falter, and cheat on your diet or skip your exercise routine. So what? No one but you is holding you accountable!
