Eggs or Chicken? Protein Tips and Suggestions by Kai Lo

Besides protein powder, it can be a headache when it comes to deciding what types of protein you should take. Some might argue that eggs are better than chicken, and vice versa. The truth is that you should have a mix variety of protein for good, quality muscle growth. You do not have to follow a strict food guideline to build muscles. You do not have to limit yourself to just eggs in the morning.

I like to have eggs some mornings and maybe a peanut butter on toasted whole-wheat breads the next morning. Sometimes I would have cereal with milk or even dinner for breakfast. What I'm trying to say is that you can be creative for your meals. It would be so boring to eat hard-boiled eggs every morning now wouldn't it?

If you are going to eat bunch of eggs per day, try not to eat more than 2 whole eggs. Sure whole eggs are very nutritional, but they are also fattening and high in cholesterol. I try to limit myself to 1 whole egg per day, and eat the rest of the eggs just for the egg whites. 1 whole egg contains 6 grams of protein, while eggs without the yolk contain 4 grams of protein. So what if you are throwing away 2 grams of protein? You can always find protein from another source of food.

If you are going to eat chicken, go for chicken breasts. Don't eat wings or fried chickens because they are very high in fat. Make sure the chicken breasts are not greasy because if it is, just wash it with water. Eating plain chicken breast might not be too appetizing, but it is the healthiest way to get protein out of chicken. I usually saute my chicken with mixed veggies for flavor and nutrition, and sometimes with brown rice too.

There are many good sources of protein out there. Salmon is an excellent source of protein. Not only is it high in protein, it also has omega-3 fatty acid - great source of unsaturated fat and very healthy for your heart. Red meats are also great, but try to go for ones that are lean cut. Many red meats are high in fat. Diary is excellent too, but go for fat-free diary. They also contain calcium - great source for strong bones and fights fat. Nuts are great too. They are high in good fat and protein, help fight fat, and control hunger.

There are decent amounts of protein in beans and breads too. They both have good amounts of carbs to help you bulk up. Make sure you are eating whole-grain bread except right after your workout (within 2 hours)you would eat starchy white bread/rice/etc. to help recover.

I can't see myself eating eggs and chicken from breakfast to dinner. You would eventually give up on eating healthy altogether because you would get sick and tired of it. Spice things up and enjoy your meals.
