Remember the feeling you had when you were at the department store or mall and you put that dime in and were so excited to be riding that rocking horse that you did not want it to ever stop? Well it does not have to why not build one, with a good set of plans it is not difficult at all. You do not have to be carpenter to build one, you can be a novice builder and do a great job. And while your watching it come together to know that the end result will bring so much happiness.
The cost to build a rocking horse can be anywhere from ten to thirty dollars, depending on what size you build. Excellent results can be had using the basic woodworking tools such as a table saw jig saw. A good set of plans will also tell you what types of wood to choose from for that particular project.
Start like this: Get a good set of plans that are easy to read and have detailed pictures to go by. This is the most important step in any woodworking project. Next decide what scale to build, it is always better to go bigger than smaller so your child does not out grow his new friend in a year or less. Then make sure you have access to a table saw and jig saw, sander and a hand held drill and that is it. Please do not forget to start with quality rocking horse plans, this alone will make this an enjoyable easy to build project for you. Have Fun!
