Here Are Some Methods to Help Parents Deal With Their Children's Fight by David W Richards

When your kids fight, it is very frustrating. It happens in almost every family. However frustrating it might be, it is normal, as long as nobody gets hurt.

But, then, what to do when your children are fighting?

Here are some tips you can try:

• Ignore them. Some kids fight just to get their parents’ attention. There is some kind of an understanding among them that if they want their parents to pay attention, just fight, they will get it soon. That is why, if that’s the case, the best thing to do is simply ignore them. Or, at least make them think that you ignore them. Behind their back, watch them, just to make sure that they don’t overdo it so no one will get hurt.

• Treat them equally. Sometimes, the trigger of the fight is jealousy. One feels like he/she is less loved by you and the other might make fun of it. If this is what happens, you should learn to treat them equally. And if they fight over the matter, never ever take sides and if you have to punish them, give them the same level of punishment.

• Sit down and discuss. If the fight seems to get worse, do interfere. Make them sit and talk. Ask them what they fight about and why should it be ended with a fight, not a discussion. Make them talk it over with you leading them.

• Be fair. If you find out that one of them was the one who is wrong, give him/her more punishment or more time to talk about it with you. That way, they will be more reluctant to start a fight for they would not want to get more punishment.

There are actually two main things parents must put in mind to avoid their children from fighting. One, they should not differ one child from another. If one gets a birthday party, then the others, too. Two, they must never compare one child to another. Each kid is unique and special.
