Document reviewing, legal research and writing, outsourcing patent services, drafting pleadings, etc. are some of the major legal projects outsourced to the LPO firms. The Legal outsourcing services provided by law firms and legal support service companies are in growing demand to cut the overhead expenses of the client law firm.
As legal process outsourcing is not a new concept, the industry has acknowledged a period of exceptional growth during the recent years as several hectic companies increasingly turn to external sources to fulfill their highly administrative functions of their business.
Legal outsourcing to India had earlier begun at a very low level and the quality of work was low-end which included transcription. With rising legal costs in the U.S. and in the EU, they are amongst a variety of other factors that are driving the legal work to India.
The LPO effect has gained impetus in countries like India, with law graduates being hired by corporate in order to accommodate increased legal work. Graduates are trained by different companies, and universities are on threshold of starting new programmes that accomplish demand created by this sector.
In a recent interview, Mr. Sanjay Kamlani, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Pangea 3 stated that there has been a sharp rise in the LPO business with revenues increasing by over 100%. Further, the US Companies and Law Firms are concentrating to outsource their work in areas of Electronic Discovery and Bankruptcy Litigations.
LPO is the buzz word in today's legal industry in India. Legal Process Outsourcing refers to the practice of a law firm or a corporation, obtaining legal support services from an outside law firm or a legal support services company.
Outsourcing to India had started with medical transcription and was closely followed by call centers and IT outsourcing and other types of BPO (business process outsourcing). These have now paved the way for KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) and LPO (Legal Process Outsourcing).
Countries like India and the Philippines have proven to be very successful in this area, offering their services to anyone who needs them. The main purpose of legal process outsourcing is to cut costs as much as possible and have the same quality of work product. So far, it has been a successful endeavor for many firms.
Outsourcing helps companies in increasing their time efficiency and economic growth. This has helped the companies to gain an extra edge in the present highly competitive business. Outsourcing non key tasks like legal research, document review and writing on a project basis proves cost-effective as it reduces labor costs and helps the law firm to focus on their major legal issues.
The emergence of LPO in India has significantly benefitted many companies (consultancies) to cater to different domain of this outsourcing business. Among large number of LPO's thriving in India it often becomes difficult to choose the right one.
The India based LPO services are a great boon in this regard because, attorneys in India doing the work come from the best law schools with a good understanding of the US legal system.
