Training Border Collies Can Be A Rewarding Experience, Eventually

Training Border Collies is a very enjoyable experience because they are so intelligent and can take in so many different commands, once you've got the basic obedience training such as sit, stay, heel and come up to scratch there are many more tricks and advanced commands you can teach them. However, their high intelligence and perception can sometimes seem like a double edged sword and if you do not show consistency when you teach them a command it can become very frustrating.

They can be so perceptive that once you teach them a command using a certain word, a certain tone in your voice and a certain hand movement you will have to be consistent in reusing the same word, tone and hand movement if you want them to repeat what you have taught them. Once you remain consistent though, in my experience, they will master the command very quickly.

It is common knowledge with Border Collie owners that you should never teach a Border Collie puppy a trick if you are not prepared to put up with it for the rest of the dog's life. Once you follow the correct training methods you will find that like most herding dogs, Border Collies make wonderful, playful and loyal companions for life, each with its own unique character.

It is important if you have young kids to establish their leadership over you dog as they do have a natural instinct to try to herd every small animal they see including cats and children. This can be controlled however as long as the children know how to deal with the dog.

Training Border Collies can be a very satisfying and rewarding experience because they can understand numerous commands. However, it does require understanding and patience. If you want to teach your Border Collie to be well behaved and obedient, you can get a comprehensive dog training handbook at http://www.thedogtrainingsite.info covering all aspects of dog ownership, from understanding your dog to problem-solving to complete obedience work.
