Health Hazards of Smoking

Smoking has been around for a long time; it has made a lot of people oblivious to pain and the many disadvantages that it brings to the table. One need not see pictures or patients in the hospital to confirm the health hazards of smoking. It is all around us. The result is 5 million deaths per year and many more added each year in the list of candidates who without any better judgment fall victim to smoking. It also gets worse when a smoker tries to quit the first time; there are several withdrawal symptoms that occur which many will not welcome in a stride. The addictive nature of using tobacco will make one feel weak, agitated and oftentimes depressed the moment quitting is done. Imagine the difficulty of smoking for even casual users who swear that smoking has no grip on them, may find smoking a hard and bad habit to break.

The health hazards of smoking are not only present to those who use it directly but also to those who are known as passive smokers. These are individuals who without real intention to puff smoke become secondary smokers because they exist or are in the surroundings of people who do. It is a sad fact that even they are exposed to the dangers of smoking. As a smoker, one needs to consider the feelings and sentiments of those who are not into smoking. If that seems very remote to you, consider the health of your kids and family then and maybe just by the thought of exposing them to health risks will change your mind about smoking. Before you can fully grasp the bad effects of smoking certain substances that make up its structure must be put to light in order for you to appreciate why it has always been said that tobacco products are poison made available for consumption. In every stick of smoke you buy is a dose of a chemical known as Nicotine. It is a very powerful substance that is addictive. Not only that, if found in concentrated form, can kill a person instantly with just one drop! This same substance is also used in the making of pesticides. Another substance that gets caught up in the body is Tar. When you inhale smoke, the Tar in tobacco products accumulate in the lungs making respiratory functions difficult to proceed with ease. Certain diseases may soon affect your overall health such as bronchitis, asthma and emphysema. The lungs give out with continued smoking. It is no wonder then that whenever there is smoking , a stern warning is given to avoid pregnant women from inhaling it. The woman and even more so with the child in the womb is very susceptible to diseases caused by smoking due to the fact that the child has very small lungs and arteries that can easily be affected by the harmful effects of smoking.

It is addictive and the health hazards of smoking is real. It can ruin not only your health but also your life. Add to that the physical changes that it can do to you. When one smokes, that person is more likely to look older that he or she really is. It is also not friendly to one's skin as it is known to cause yellowing on the teeth and staining other parts of the body. The pleasure you get from smoking is never a good barter for the health you lose in the long run. Quitting now will yield more benefits for you and your family than keeping it a part of your life for years.
