We all know about the famous KFC or Kentucky fried chicken. It’s easily available all over the world. So if you feel like gorging on fried chicken all you have to do is go to a KFC outlet and bring home a tub of piping hot fried chicken for your friends and family.
But instead of ordering fried chicken from restaurants or fast food corners, why don’t you try preparing the delicious Kentucky fried chicken at home. It’s not difficult at all. The ingredients are easily available and it does not take much of your time.
Plus it will be a healthier option as you can take care of the portions, cleanliness and hygiene.
Ingredients:
- frying chicken cut into pieces (Kosher or Natural chicken are the best choice)
- tbsp curry powder
- tbsp ground all spice
- OR
- Fine herb mix
- 1 tsp tarragon
- 1 tsp chopped chervil
- 1 tsp chopped chives
- 1 tsp chopped parsley
- (You can use any other fresh herb that you like)
- 1-2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil or shortening for deep frying
- (Crisco shortening is used for the crispiest chicken while canola oil is the healthiest option)
Take a big bowl. Mix chicken pieces with salt, pepper, spices, garlic, chili, beaten eggs, and 2 tbsp water. Mix them thoroughly. Now add flour and mix them with hands. Keep mixing till all the chicken pieces are well coated on all sides.
Add more water if mixture is too dry or add more flour if mixture is too thin. The mixture should not be too powdery or too wet. Make sure the coating sticks to the chicken pieces.
Now heat oil or shortening for deep frying. Once it is hot, slowly add chicken pieces into the oil. Cover the skillet to prevent oil from spilling. Turn heat to medium. The oil should sizzle but not be smoky.
Cook chicken pieces for about 8-10 minutes. Uncover skillet, turn the chicken pieces over with tongs and cook for another 7 minutes or till the pieces are golden brown.
Remove the fried chicken and place them on paper towels or kitchen napkins to drain excess oil. You can serve it hot or cold.
So you see how easy it is to prepare Kentucky fried chicken at home. And it’s sure going to taste just like the ones from KFC outlets!
