Leap training is something that is very important to athletes and basketball players who have to use their legs to jump for their sport. To improve your vertical jumping ability you need to strengthen your legs and improve on your power. The following offers some advice on attaining these.
Firstly, you need to warm up your muscles before doing any form of exercise so that you avoid getting any sort of strain or tear. You should do a short jog followed by some rigorous stretching.
After this, you need to move onto some forms of exercise that will look to strengthen your legs and condition the muscles. First of all, do some simple crouches or knee bends. Simply stand with a straight back and and lower your body as close to the ground as possible by bending your knees gently. It is also a good idea to add extra weight if you want a mor intense workout.
You can also do some toe raises. With these your simply stand straight and slowly raise your leg off of the ground until you are able to touch your toe with your hand. Repeat this exercise for as man times as possible and do several sets. The key with this exercise is balance and so your core will also be well worked.
After trying these gentle exercises, you can move onto some that get your leaping and jumping. Go running and incorporate some bounds into your jog. As you jog extend your stride so that you are leaping forward and landing hard on your legs. Keep this motion going for as long as possible.
You can also set up some hurdles and keep them spaced quite close together. Ensure that you start from a standstill and then jump up and over the first hurdle. When you hit the ground make sure that you land on the balls of your feet and then leap up and over the next hurdle. Keep this action going until you have completed the set and repeat several times.
