For fans of the X Games, the idea of holding a mock competition at home may be exciting. In the area of skateboarding, the teams may paint their skateboards so that they look more professional and maybe even give themselves a team name. As a parent, you may assist by helping them take an old jacket and add some patches and insignia that make their team see "official." This "professional" team will now compete in a Mock X Games competition for the prize that you have chosen before the games began.
Not only does staging an event like this allow everyone to have fun and get exercise, it builds up team spirit and helps the children learn the art of competing. The prize doesn't have to big anything huge, but just a token to show that they have succeeded at something. You have to be careful, though, you don't want to do this kind of activity when the weather is very cold or the ground is wet or slippery. The idea is to help with the art of competing, not to get hurt from a slide on rain or ice.
Staging X Games doesn't have to be just a party activity—you can do it anytime your child(ren) have a group of friends who are interested in having something else to do besides just skateboarding in the neighborhood or riding bikes. The activity is fun, competitive, and it gives the kids plenty of exercise at the same time. Always have some prizes in the house in case of a last minute request.
