Conquer Search Engine Rankings by Marenda Hughes Taylor

Search Engines love fresh text based content. While a flashy website filled with graphics may have visual appeal, such sites are not always Search Engine friendly. This is exactly why blogs are favored by Search Engines.

Adding a blog to your website or using a publishing platform such as WordPress to develop your website, is a best practice for conquering Search Engine Rankings.

1. Blogs are rich in text.
2. Blogs are updated frequently.
3. Blogs are capable of automatically informing Search Engines of updates.

Follow these simple techniques to improve Search Engine Rankings.

Step One: Fresh Content
In order to achieve high Search Engine rankings, the number one focus of a blog should be to provide valuable information, products, and/or services that are relevant to the blogs main keywords. A blog that is updated frequently and consistently with quality keyword relevant information, will keep Search Engine bots and readers coming back for more; especially if the blog uses auto pinging.

Step Two: Keywords and Search Engine Friendly Settings
The structure of your URL, blog title, blog tagline, and titles of blog posts can help or hurt your Search Engine Rankings.

Avoid using long Urls. Do not use Urls with numbers and symbols, like http://yourwebsite.com/p?74. When people use Search Engines, they type in keywords and phrases, not numbers or symbols. Therefore, to increase the chances of a blog being found via a Search Engine, it is important that a blog URL contain relevant keywords that people actually search.

The title of a blog should include main keywords. If the blog is business oriented, the title should also include the name of the business. The blog tagline and post titles should also contain important keywords and phrases to increase opportunities of being indexed by Search Engines.

Step Three: Link Popularity
“Link popularity is a measure of the quantity and quality of other web sites that link to a specific site on the World Wide Web.” --- Wikipedia

Search Engines pay close attention to link popularity.
Reciprocal linking to high-ranking websites is one of the quickest ways to increase Search Engine rankings. However, it is often easier said than done.

Social Bookmarking websites, tagging, blog directories, and RSS feed directories are all great ways to begin building links. Article marketing, press releases, and guest blogging are also powerful tools for increasing link popularity.

Focus on these three strategies and you will be on your way to conquering Search Engine rankings.
